Rockville-based Neuralstem (AMEX: CUR) said Thursday it had been grantef a patent on four new chemical entities that boost the generation ofnew neurons. The company’a patent application, titled “Use of Fuse d Nicotinamides toPromote Neurogenesis,” claims four chemical entities and any pharmaceuticalk composition including them. “The ability to promotde neurogenesis — the birth of new neuronas in the adultbrain — has recentlyg been a focus of intense research by scientists and pharmaceutical companies worldwide, said Neuralstem CEO Richard Garr.
“These four compounds, with potent demonstratedf neurogenic activity were discoveredentirely in-house and are ownede by the Company. These are the only drugsx we are aware of with the demonstrateds ability to stimulate neurogenesis of normal adulttbrain cells."
