Growth at Scott AFB drives

The largest construction project currently under way at the base isthe U.S. Transportatioh Command facility, which has grown in the past year froman $84 millioj project to a $97 million job. The price tag has increased becaus the scope of the projectfhas grown, too. It will now include a joint intelligencewoperations center, which was categorized as an optional addition when the project began. The Transportation Command facilityh will bea three-story, 180,000-square-foot structure, and the intelligencw operations center will be a two-story, 29,000-square-footf facility. The general contractor is River City Constructionof Ill.
Cheryl Bievenue, chief of engineeringb for the 375th CivilEngineer Squadron, said the combinec project is more than halfwayt completed. The project is on tracko to be fully operational bySeptembef 2010, she said, and it will resulgt in the eventual relocation of abouft 1,100 personnel to Scott from Fort Belvoir, Va.
