Metro to vote on MERC's future - Portland Business Journal:

The proposal, introduced by Metrp councilors Rod Park and Rex would give Metro the authority to hire and fire the MERCgeneral manager. The seven-member MERC board of director currently hasthat responsibility. The vote comew a week after MERC general manager David Woolson resignechis position. Woolson and most MERC board memberse oppose Parkand Burkholder’sw proposal. Woolson had clashed with Metro Council President David who had calledfor Woolson’s resignation.
Woolson will receive nine monthd of salaryand benefits, plus sick As part of his negotiatesd settlement, he agreed not to file any Cheryl Twete, MERC’s businesws and community development director, is serving as the commission’sx interim general manager. MERC oversees the Oregon Convention Center, the Portlanf Center for the Performing Arts and the Portland MetropolitanExposition Center. Metro is Portland's regionak government that primarily focuses on land use andtransportatiom planning.
