D.C. to reduce Rock Creek pollution - Washington Business Journal:

The grant came directlyt from the foundation and not fromstimulusx monies. D.C.’s low-impact development proposal was one of 24 picked this year to get fundingy to weed out pollution in the Chesapeake Bay andits “This grant gives us the opportunity to deal with stormwatet differently and on a largedr scale than ever before,” said Georg Hawkins, department director. “If we help naturre absorb and filter stormwater, there may be less of it to and less of it to carr y pollutants into our rivers and The department’s pilot project spands 14 acres surrounding Rock Creek.
Through the the department will installgreenn roofs, vegetation and porous pavement to absorgb stormwater at the source. The purpose is to find out if that type of work can reduc e runoff and the resulting pollutionto D.C. The $12.9 million in grantxs cover six statesand D.C.
