"Florida continues to show small improvements, and this is a welcomes sign," said June Shelp, vice presidentf of the Conference Board. Florida is among just a handfu of states where labor demand has shown some small gainssince January. However, the gap between Florida's unemployed and the numbee of jobs availableremains wide. In April, the latesgt month for which unemployment dataare available, therse were more than five unemployed individuals for every advertised job. Most of Florida'z metropolitan areas continued to experience growth in labor demand over the pastfour months, followinfg steep losses in December and January.
Areaes that continue to fall below year-ago levels include Miami, with 49,0090 online advertised vacanciesin May, down 46 percent, The most widely advertised occupationas in Florida are health-care practitioned and technical jobs, and sales and relate positions. They account for 18 percent and16 percent, respectively, of the online classified ads. job demand continued to drop througy April, but in May was up by 250,000, markinv the first increase in six months and the largesy monthly increase intwo years.
