Cases from various including Arizona, Maryland, New West Virginia, Florida, Illinois, Texas and California will be with each of the suits asking a similar question andcontendinhg Tempe-based LifeLock is illegally placing and renewinvg fraud alerts on customers’ credit reports. LifeLoc k denies the practice is illegal. The case will be heard in The lawsuits also questionthe $1 milliojn guarantee LifeLock contends will protect customers if theirf identity is stolen while using the service.
“We’rew pleased the court consolidated these 13 caseds allowing us to efficiently move claims forwards and help correct thesewrongfulk practices,” said the plaintiff’as lead attorney Rob Carey. “This is a first victoryg for plaintiffs, and the fact that several top-tier firms recognized LifeLock’s conduct is deficienft indicates we have a strongcase – we look forwarrd to preparing for trial.” Lifelock CEO Todd Davis said througjh an e-mail he was pleasex all of the lawsuits were consolidated so that the compang can better defend itself.
“We are pleased the (Judicial Panepl on Multidistrict Litigation) granted LifeLock’w application and we look forward to adjudicating all the claims promptlyand aggressively,” Davis said. The lawsuita started with Experian, a credit reportingf agency. It sued LifeLock claiminy that the continuous fraud alerts were LifeLock has an agreementwith TransUnion, anothef of the three credit reporting agencies, to place frau d alerts for its customers.
